Amorin talks about goalkeeper candidates: Everyone needs to compete for jobs, I will not designate who is the first choice

The Manchester Evening News reported that Amorin refused to disclose the starting goalkeeper candidate in the first round of the Premier League against Arsenal.

Onana has recovered from a hamstring injury after missing all Manchester United preseason games. While onana was recovering from injury, Baindel played four of five friendly matches.

This summer, Manchester United considered introducing a new goalkeeper and tried to loan Martinez from Aston Villa, but would not pursue Donnarumma. The Manchester Evening News disclosed in May that the goalkeeper position is not the focus of Manchester United's signings, and the club may still strengthen the midfield before the transfer window is closed.

When asked whether Onana started, Amorin said: "Like other players, everyone needs to compete for jobs. I will not specify who is the first choice. He is ready to play, let's wait and see, and it will be clear on Sunday."

Manchester United signed Onana from Inter Milan for £47.2 million in July 2023, but the 29-year-old goalkeeper made frequent mistakes in the past two seasons. Baindill's ten starts for Manchester United were mediocre, but he played a key role in the third round of the FA Cup last season, saving penalty kicks in both regular time and penalty shootouts.

Amorin still believes that Onana and the entire team can surpass last season's performance: "As a coach, I believe that the players who stayed in the team can do better than last year, and I am full of confidence in this."
