Tottenham midfielder Bentancur returns to Uruguay's squad. The 28-year-old midfielder spoke about what it's like to return to the national team, World Cup goals and his form at Tottenham.

How does it feel to return to the national team?

"It is a pride to come to the national team. I am very happy to be with my teammates. We will have two exciting games and I will enjoy them very much."

You missed the game in October, how is it different this time back?

"The last time I came to the national team was when we played against Peru and Chile and qualified for the World Cup. It is great to achieve the goal of entering the World Cup and we are very happy about it. Now we must take advantage of these moments together."

Speaking of the 2026 World Cup, what is the team's goal?

"We start to set short-term goals, which are these games at the moment. The last World Cup did not meet our expectations, but now we have to start from the short-term goals to reach as high as possible, and of course, why not, we dream of the World Cup championship."

What do you think of the "new faces" selected in October?

"I saw that the team is in good shape, both the old players and the new players. Fortunately, the team won, which also helped Bielsa to examine new faces."

What is your personal state at Tottenham?

"We started really well, we played well against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup and made a big jump. We're back in the Champions League and I'm enjoying it. I feel good and played almost all the games."

If you were to sum up the year, what were your three best moments?

"On a football level, it was winning the Europa League with Tottenham and the Uruguay national team qualifying for the World Cup; on a personal level, it was keeping all my family members healthy."
