Official news from Manchester United Club is that the safety standing stand at Old Trafford will be officially opened during the game against Everton. This will be the largest safety standing stand in the Premier League.
Since September, a total of 6,000 new seat rails have been installed on the second level of the Stretford Stand. The work is now complete and the area has now received official Safe Standing certification from the Sports Venues Safety Authority.
This new area complements existing safe standing areas in all four areas of Old Trafford, bringing the total number of railing seats to 13,577, accounting for 18% of total capacity.
Safe standing stands are recognized to improve fan safety, while also enhancing the atmosphere in the stadium for those fans who are more likely to stand in the area.
Since the first installation of railing seats in the north-east area of the stadium in 2021, the club has been gradually expanding the safe standing area with the support of fan representatives and the Manchester United Supporters Trust.
Before works began, the club conducted a survey of season ticket holders on the second tier of the Stretford Stand, which revealed strong support for the introduction of safe standing stands in this area.
