One of the most painful problems in home decoration is to invest a lot of time and effort to follow a design project or trend, and ultimately find that the results are far worse than expected. Worse, such errors often not only waste money and time, but also may also bring more costs and trouble.

According to The Spruce's report, the good news is that these common errors are actually preventable. We visited several well-loved professional designers and asked them to share common decoration mines, how to avoid them, and even what methods to replace them is more ideal.

. Susie Novak: Interior designer, founder of Susie Novak Interiors

. Brittany Cooper: Rathell Designs's responsible and chief designer

. John Stivale: Interior designer, co-creator of Stivale Graffam Home

1. Art without spirit and past art

If you want to create a warm and story-like space, designer Susie Novak emphasized, "It is very important to use art and accessories you really like." Otherwise, the space may lack personality, or even like an interesting display.

"Art and art seem to be just supporting roles, but they are actually important elements to tell your story, whether it is travel experience or personality expression," she said. Choosing a personalized decoration is a key to making the person no longer look like a hotel, but is closer to the sense of life.

2. Ignore lighting regulations

designer Brittany Cooper, said, "Every charming home has a carefully planned lighting system."

Lighting is not only a functional requirement, but also a great improvement in space quality. She suggests starting with one of elegant hanging lights, well-configured inlays, or smart lighting systems, and even if the budget is limited, the impact of light on the atmosphere should not be ignored.

3. Blindly chasing trends

It is not wrong to follow trends, but if you only choose low-priced and quantitative products to follow the trend, the space will easily become inconsistent.

"Avoid buying popular singles that are prone to return, which will make the overall design lose its theme and consistency." John Stivale reminds. Fashion can be referenced, but design should reflect your lifestyle and long-term vision.

4. Incorrect Maximalism

Extreme Maximalism does not mean "everything is a concern". Too many products can easily cause space pressure and visual fatigue.

It is recommended to choose small but precise and intentional objects to avoid blindly stacking decorations due to price or brand, so that the design can add points to the space rather than become a burden.

5. Low-quality cabinets

Although high-quality cabinets are not cheap, Susie Novak believes that this is one of the most worth investing in.

"Not all cabinets are the same. High-quality cabinets are durable and beautiful, and their daily experiences will be very different," she said. On the contrary, the continuous repair and replacement of low-priced cabinets are often more costly.

6. Furniture is not as good as

Furniture may be one of the largest expenses in decoration, and the size ratio is a key that cannot be ignored.

"Furniture with appropriate proportions can make the space look balanced and comfortable, and the overall look more designed," Cooper pointed out. Too large furniture makes the space swell, and too small to appear hollow and uncoordinated. She suggested that the work must be measured in advance in order to accurately select the most suitable furniture.

7. Past wall material

Novak pointed out that textured wall treatment can easily make the space look old. She suggested that instead of applying heavy texture on the wall, it would be better to invest to smooth the wall surface and lay a clean and neat foundation for the subsequent decoration.

"If the wall is not clean, no matter how beautiful the paint, art or decoration is, it will not be able to achieve the best results." She added, "Although the cost is not small, it is definitely worth investing."
