When talking about the East African country "Tanzania", most people think of travel and tourism. However, a scientific team specifically investigated the country's traditional food culture. The latest research found that compared with Western diet, eating traditional Tanzania food can reduce inflammation and improve physical reproduction compared to Western diets.
Study shows that African traditional food is healthierResearchers invited 77 healthy men from Tanshania to conduct a study, which was divided into Western diet groups and Traditional African diet groups.
Western diet group:
Mainly consume processed meat and refined carbohydrates, including: pissum, noodles, potatoes, fried dough, white bread and chicken eggs, and less fruits and vegetables are eaten.
Traditional African diet group:
Mainly consume all grains, root crops, green vegetables, plantains (Plantain, also known as powdered banana), beans, millet fermented beverages, and a small amount of meat.
results show that those who have changed from African traditional diet to Western diets, not only did their immune system function decline, but their physical inflammation indicators have increased sharply, and related biological responses to non-infectious diseases (such as heart disease and diabetes) have also increased.
On the contrary, the physical inflammation index of participants who took African traditional diets was lower, and the New Chen Daixi also improved.
Professor Quirijn de Mast, the main researcher of this report, pointed out that traditional diets in African rural areas are more in line with the principle of healthy and naturalness than Western food.
It can be found that African traditional diets contain rich plant-based ingredients: all kinds of grains and fresh vegetables, and are usually cooked in water or steamed, which is healthier than highly processed foods, fried, and high-sugar foods.
In addition, the Tanzanian tribe uses cooked bananas and millet to make the traditional drink "Mbege", which is rich in dietary fibers, polyphenols and probiotics, which are very helpful for anti-inflammatory and kidney health.
In recent years, the health industry has been popular about Mediterranean and Japanese diet, while African traditional diet is relatively fresh. This research has brightened the eyes of all walks of life and emphasizes the positive impact of prototype foods, whole grains and fermented ingredients on health. We look forward to further research that can provide more information, allowing everyone to understand the food culture around the world, and allowing healthy diet topics to include more diverse and rich perspectives.
